ABOUT WWF India
WWF India is one of the country’s leading conservation organizations dedicated to delivering sustainable solutions to address challenges at the interface of development and environment conservation. We focus on creating science-based
programmes to address India’s complex environmental issues and promote science-driven policy design for sustainable development to impact positive change.
Environment Education
Our journey in India began in 1969 with only one division – Environment Education. Over the last 50 years, we have engaged citizens of all age groups and backgrounds across diverse regions to take positive action for environment conservation.
We believe that environment education plays a critical role in inspiring attitudes and behavioral shifts towards sustainable living, which is the need of the hour. We lay utmost importance on engaging with the young generation,
as they will form the society of tomorrow and become future leaders. Our five flagship initiatives aim to inform, inspire and empower children, youth and citizens to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. We are actively
engaging with more than 5,00,000 students across 16 states of India.
WWF India and Plastic Tide Turners Challenge
WWF India has one of the strongest volunteer networks across the country with over 26,000 active volunteers from diverse background contributing to our mission and vision across 16 states. We understand the potential and interest of
youth towards environment conservation, and are therefore, uniquely positioned to implement the Tide Turners challenge in India.
During the pilot phase of the challenge in India, we played a crucial role in adapting and revising the tide turners plastic challenge toolkit to make it suitable for the Indian population, developed a robust monitoring and evaluation
framework, as well as designed and conducted leadership workshops for over 1600 young environment leaders. This phase witnessed participation from 25,400 youth from select universities in Delhi, Jaipur (Rajasthan), Chandigarh and
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) within a period of four months and an outreach of over 10 million people through key partners – Radio City, Banasthali Vidyapith and Bharat Scouts & Guides inspiring individuals to GIVEUP single-use plastics.
