Overview

Founded in 2020, Clean Ocean Force is a legally registered non-profit organization dedicated to marine and ecosystem conservation. Our mission is to tackle marine pollution, particularly the pressing issue of plastic waste, through sustainable, community-driven solutions.

Clean Ocean Force implements awareness campaigns, educational programs, and advocacy to address ocean plastics and ecosystem degradation. Our daily, hands-on activities empower coastal communities by fostering economic opportunities, especially for women. By establishing circular economies, we aim to promote sustainable practices and create a healthier planet for future generations.

Our Approach

We operate through a Public-Private Partnership model that helps underprivileged communities become self-sustaining entrepreneurs via coastal waste collection. Many of our waste collection teams, largely women living below the poverty line, have transformed into local entrepreneurs. Through partnerships with provincial and central government bodies, Clean Ocean Force has pioneered Sri Lanka's first organized coastal waste collection and management system in Jaffna.

Vision

Our vision is a plastic-free Sri Lankan coast, with restored ecosystems and economically empowered communities. Using our 3A Model—Advocacy, Awareness, and Action—we aim to expand our initiatives to mangroves, coral reefs, and the full coastal belt, supported by a Material Recovery Facility.
